Who can apply to become an Arkansas Teacher Corps Fellow?
Any individual with a bachelor’s degree (or graduating with a bachelor’s degree by June of 2016) with a 2.75 GPA or higher and who can legally work in Arkansas is eligible to apply to become an ATC Fellow. There is a recommended minimum GPA of 3.0 but it is not a requirement. Read more: Becoming a Fellow.

The ATC is not limited the districts in which we currently serve. Our program serves Arkansas school districts based on need. Each year, school districts across the state submit placement requests to ATC, and ATC staff will make placement decisions based on district need and available Fellows who can fill the requested vacancies. ATC usually receives many more requests than can be filled.
Where will I be placed to teach if I am accepted into the program?
Our program is open to all school districts across the state with placements based on need. However, the majority of the placements are in central and southern Arkansas (see map above). ATC staff will find you the placement where you will make the greatest impact. When making placement decisions, ATC staff considers first district need, then subject areas a prospective Fellow would be qualified to teach and Fellow preferences. While applicants are not able to request specific districts, you may rank regions, grade levels, and subject areas on your application to help us better make placement decisions. Flexibility with regards to placement is encouraged.
What will I teach if I am accepted into the program?
ATC receives a variety of requests with regards to subject. Accepted Fellows usually teach a subject that is close to their college major, or a subject for which they have passed the required Praxis tests. In the past, over half of our placement requests are for math and science teachers with another third for English teachers. Other subjects, like fine arts and electives, are possibilities for those with such a background. The majority of placements are at the middle and high school level. Flexibility with regards to placement subject and grade level is encouraged.
What would the salary range be for ATC Fellows?
Each ATC Fellow will be paid an annual salary based on the salary schedule of the school district in which they are placed. The state average salary for an individual with a bachelor’s and no prior experience is $32,679, with an absolute minimum of $29,244. ATC will provide an additional $15,000 stipend to each Fellow (paid over three years) for an average yearly income of $37,679 and a minimum of $34,244. There are other opportunities in each district for additional stipends such as coaching, club sponsoring, summer school, etc. These stipends range and vary by district from approximately $500 to $6,000.
Is there a cost to apply or to be a part of the program?
There is no direct cost to apply or become a Fellow in the program. There are, though, costs associated with obtaining a teaching license, which may include Praxis testing fees, background checks, and licensure application fees. Assistance will be available for Fellows unable to pay the necessary fees.

How will I be trained if I am accepted into the program?
All ATC Fellows attend a 6 week summer training institute (usually beginning in early June) before they begin teaching in the Fall. Fellows attend lectures and workshops centering on instruction, critical consciousness, and relationships (with students, the community, and peers). Fellows also have full responsibility for teaching summer school classes in one of our partner districts. Fellows work closely in Professional Learning Communities to gain content and grade level specific skills daily. Housing and some meals are provided for all accepted Fellows during the summer institute. During the school year, Fellows attend 10 professional development sessions (6 in-person and at least 4 virtual). Fellows are also observed by a district mentor and an ATC-staff coach. Coaches observe first-year Fellows at least 8 times a year with numerous coaching conversations, planning meetings, and check-ins between.
